Christian Legal Aid of DC
Christian Legal Aid of DC exists to provide access to justice for low-income residents of Washington, DC while demonstrating the love of Christ. Utilizing a network of volunteer attorneys, law students and other professionals, CLADC provides legal services primarily through its legal aid clinics at locations around The District.
Ongoing Operations
CLADC currently operates in a hybrid capacity. Staff and volunteers meet with clients in person, when needed, during Saturday in-person clinics a few times each year and during Friday in-person clinics at Central Union Mission’s Men’s Shelter once a month. CLADC also runs virtual clinics twice a month, bringing essential legal help right into our clients’ homes. Many of these cases can make significant progress, or even be completed, remotely. This hybrid model eases the burdens on clients and volunteers alike, while still making space for strategic in-person services.
Prayer Requests
- Pray for our clients and those awaiting services in the Washington, DC area. Unmet civil legal needs can have deep, negative impacts on individuals, families, and communities.
- Pray for more volunteers, especially attorneys, to provide legal advice during clinic consultations and for those who are available and willing to work on extended representation cases.
- Pray for the Lord’s wisdom and provision as we pursue opportunities to grow our team.
Ways to Get Involved
CLADC also has needs in other areas such as administrative support, design and marketing, fundraising research, etc. Non-legal volunteer opportunities typically occur on an ad-hoc basis and we encourage people to reach out if they’re interested.
If you are interested in getting more information, please reach out to Christian Legal Aid of DC by visiting our website or emailing us at info@christianlegalaid-dc.org.
Christian Legal Aid needs volunteers who are either lawyers or law students to conduct phone consultations with clients during our virtual legal aid clinics. These occur twice each month, and clinics fill up very quickly, leaving new clients waiting for weeks. With more volunteers, we can respond to people’s needs much sooner. CLADC provides help with these legal issues: Simple Estate Planning (e.g., Wills, Powers of Attorney), Probate, Expungement/Criminal Record Sealing, Social Security benefits, and Landlord/Tenant (e.g., Eviction Defense, Housing Code Violations). Our team of staff and advisors guides lawyers and law students through assisting clients, and offers trainings and resources. New volunteers are paired with more experienced volunteers.
