DC127 is dedicated to protecting children by empowering parents to preserve families. They provide wraparound services to parents and grandparents who are isolated, overwhelmed, and under-resourced. They advocate for new foster homes by providing information sessions and connecting parents to Child & Family Services Agency for licensing. DC127’s mission is to “unite churches in Washington D.C. to recruit and support foster families so that no child has to wait for a home.”
Communities for Families
DC127’s Communities for Families (CFF) program seeks to provide stability to vulnerable families in DC. Volunteering with CFF is a unique opportunity to form an intentional relationship with a family to provide much-needed social and emotional encouragement to parents who are isolated and overwhelmed. DC127 staff works with every volunteer and parent. Together, DC127 and the volunteer act as the support team to the family.
Prayer Requests
- More volunteers for the Communities for Families (CFF) program. (DC127 is currently serving over 50 families (115 children) and needs about 30 additional volunteers.)
- For the new CFF volunteers to feel empowered and supported as they walk with a family during an unstable season.
- For the new families who are beginning the process of becoming a licensed foster home.
- Continued provision of work for the families in the CFF program.
- Provision of childcare for families in the CFF program.
Volunteer Needs
- Volunteers for the CFF program: Volunteering with CFF is a 6-9 month commitment. The expectation is to check in with the family at least once a week. DC127 staff works with every volunteer and parent, and offers trauma-informed training throughout the year to guide the volunteers though complex issues.
- Babysitters: DC127 is offering limited in-person babysitting as a part of the wraparound support through our CFF program. This is a free service to families to provide temporary relief and respite in cases of appointments, errands, or a needed break.
- Organizing or participating in donation drives or Family Fun Days: DC127 will be collecting perishable and non-perishable food items and books, gift cards, and clothes for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas drives. Anyone is welcome to organize or participate in donation drives and Family Fun Days.
